Go Natural Without the Big Chop?

Yup, you read that right! You can go natural without cutting off all of your hair!

Here are my tips on how to transition to natural hair! It doesn't have to be a difficult process and contrary to Riley's opinion it doesn't take a bunch of different products either... why would she think mustard would be helpful?

1. Deep Condition your hair regularly with appropriate deep conditioner. I'll have my go-to conditioner linked below.

2. Moisture, moisture, moisture!! Make sure you adequately moisturize you hair daily. Natural hair is dry by nature and will seem extremely dry, make sure you have some moisturizers on deck. Shea Moisture Restorative Conditioner was my fav.

3. Baby that line of demarcation!... Ok, I can hear you now saying, "what the hell is that Jay??!" This is the point where your natural hair and your relaxed hair meets. This point is EXTREMELY delicate so baby the heck out of it. Pay close attention to it when moisturizing and applying your deep conditioner.

4. Styling... Yeah I know, what do you do with those two textures? Well I'll suggest braid outs, bantu knots, straw sets, and flexirods sets. All these styles will blend the two textures and will make them almost unnoticeable. See video on how to curl your ends with perm rods. (@5:35)

*Focus on the health of your hair NOT length, the length will come*

I'll alleviate any other concerns you have in regards to going natural. The big chop is NOT your only option, its just AN option. 😜

As always, please feel free to share any tips we may have missed. Thank you for watching this vid on how to transition to natural!

QUICK MOISTURIZING TIPS

STEP #1

Add a moisturizer. I simpy use water, but if you plan to use a product make sure the FIRST ingredient is water (aqua) and that mineral oil or petrolatum is NOT listed in the ingredients.

STEP #2

Seal in the mositure using and oil. This can be any oil of your choice. Coconut, olive, and castor oil are my favorites.

STEP #3

Use a cream to 'lock in' all the products. I love shea butter, but I've been having an affair with mango butter... shhhhh!!!
